Edibles and Medicinal’s in a riparian environment. This class will be all outdoors along and in the Merced River where we will discuss as we hike along the river, what is edible and what is medicinal. Plants, fungus, animal, reptile, insect, etc and what use can be made with each. We will gather as we go and lunch will be what we collect (Bring a sandwich! Edible does not mean it necessarily tastes good). Stealth techniques for end of the world foraging will be taught and put to use.
To put in a twist: This class will involve river crossings and techniques to do so safely. Stealth Foraging will be on an isolated 15 acre private island. (Yes – with permissions)
Call with any questions. Bring: Water, Collection/foraging/mushrooming bag or something to put your haul in. Bring a pail to take home some berries, there should be a bunch, maybe a couple so you don’t have to sort later. Knife, personal sized, ie 3-6″. Pruning snips might help you, optional. Lunch as mentioned above. Dress to be outside and walking along, and in, the river bank/rocks. We will be in the water with our foraging clothes. Bring something to change into afterwards, and a towel. Sun screen as needed, brimmed hat, larger the better. Light gloves for nettles/thorns. Set up your gear/equipment to allow for swimming/wading.
